Charging Forward

The EV team is working on building the team’s first battery electric vehicle. We’re a small, multidisciplinary group that operates somewhat independently of the main team. We have several major subsystems that we are actively developing.

The most complex and critical system we are working on is the accumulator (FSAE’s name for the battery). Building the accumulator involves solving a number of tightly integrated mechanical, electrical, and thermal problems. The other major system EV is responsible for is the electric drivetrain itself. This is composed of an inverter – a device to convert the accumulator’s DC power to a variable frequency AC that the motor can accept, as well as the motor itself.
