Ryan Baten (Data Scientist, Transamerica)
Ryan Baten is a Data Scientist at Transamerica life insurance company on the Data and Innovation team. His work involves some deep learning, mostly Natural Language Processing (NLP) but also include computer vision, representation learning. The projects he has worked on include information extraction from contracts, OCR, identification of important bits of competing companies earnings calls, fraud detection, and more.
During his presentation, he will share his background, the work he does on a daily basis, how his team is structured, why he chose Data Science as a profession, what are the skills or requirements to become a good Data Scientist in industry. He will also recommend some resources for learning in this field.
