Coaching Staff

MICHELLE SIMS | Head Coach

Michelle began her dance training at the age of fourteen, after training for eleven years as a competitive gymnast. She trained in jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and modern at The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, where at sixteen, was hired to teach within the Hip-Hop program. She has continued to teach and choreograph for the last seventeen years.

Following high school, Michelle attended Metropolitan State University and earned a degree in Exercise Science and Business Management. Upon turning eighteen, Michelle earned a spot on the professional modern company, Ascential Dance Theater. She also danced with the Metropolitan State University hip-hop team, the Aristocrats, and has performed in many showcases and productions throughout Denver including dancing in a web commercial for Bellco Credit Union and opening for hip-hop artist, Trina, at the Summit Music Hall. Most recently, Michelle has become a published dancer, appearing in idance magazine and has been cast in Amanda V’s Material Girl (A Madonna Tribute show) as a professional dancer and performs in productions around Colorado.

Michelle is currently the lead instructor at Flatirons Dance, teaching jazz, acro, hip-hop, and technique. She is a member of the Acro Dance Teachers Association and completes continued education yearly in injury prevention and technique building. She has built a multi-level acro program from the ground up and works primarily with the competition team, where she has created numerous award-winning pieces.

Michelle has been selected by Mountain Range High School to develop their first ever Poms team. She is building a competitive program where dancers can expand upon their training and challenge themselves with fast paced learning and her high energy choreography.

Michelle has also established herself in the competition circuit, working nationally for Spotlight Dance Cup as a stage manager and dance down instructor.

In addition to her degree and continued dance education, Michelle is a certified Exercise Nutrition coach through highly acclaimed Precision Nutrition and is completing a secondary certification with Girls Gone Strong, which focuses on specific training considerations related to women in all stages of life. Utilizing her education in fitness and nutrition, she has created well rounded fitness classes and helps clients develop healthy lifestyle change. She has appeared on Channel 2’s “What’s Your Workout” and has been featured on fitness brand Instagram pages promoting exercise and an active lifestyle.

When Michelle isn’t dancing, you can find her in the gym and working to develop her lifestyle brand “Illuminate Strength”, which focuses on helping clients ditch the diet for a long-term lifestyle change.
