Byte Our Dust

At software, we are constantly trying to improve. From data collection to embedded system management, the software subsystem thrives on learning new technologies to implement into our process. Our primary objective is to collect information for the Formula team to make the most informed decisions possible. We gain valuable data using everything from real-time data analysis of onboard sensors to computer simulations.

On the current car, we are implementing an array of sensors to verify and validate the design decisions other subsystems for next year’s car. Current sensors we use include, (but certainly aren’t limited to) IR temperature sensors to validate brake efficiency, hall effect sensors for wheel speed, and GPS and IMU modules to predict future movements of the car. To gather the most valuable data we can, we also employ a host of data refinement techniques to remove any noise gathered from sensor datas to create the most accurate models possible.

The software team also employs the use of CAN messages and radio modules to transmit all data from the car to our ground station during competition, making sure that every measurement and impact on the car happening during race day can be effectively monitored.
